Know Your Enemy: How to Defeat Satan at His Mind Games

Know Your Enemy…

The only way to fight your real enemy, the devil, is to know his character traits and his ONLY purpose on earth.

The thief approaches with malicious intent, looking to steal, slaughter, and destroy. John 10:10

The first place Satan attacks is your mind. The brain is incredibly powerful. What you believe produces specific emotions that you will act on.

What the mind believes, a person’s actions will follow.  When you believe a lie as the truth; that opens the door for Satan to get a stronghold in your mind.  Strongholds are destructive thought patterns that are programmed for you to think the opposite of the truth.  When you believe the stronghold, they produce behavior patterns that self-destruct.  These self-destructive patterns produce negative emotions that will cause a person to damage or hurt others; and possibly themselves.  People are desperate to find an outlet for their pain and suffering; some are self-mutilating themselves believing this will give them emotional release.

To put it simple…believing lies about yourself means broken people that hurt others and damage themselves!

Know Your Enemy’s Weaknesses

To win a fight, you must know your opponent’s weaknesses.  Boxers don’t just train for a fight by focusing on their own techniques. They must study how their opponent’s fight to learn their strengths and their weaknesses.  They learn their opponent’s weak points, and then use that knowledge to develop a plan to overpower them and win the fight.  The fight is never just physical, they are mostly mental.

We are in a spiritual fight! “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers…against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). So, how can you battle something you can’t see?

You need to learn more about the devil’s character and how he fights.

The D.E.V.I.L. is…

D – Devious. He is always trying to trick you and is scheming to steer you down the wrong path.

E – Envious. He is jealous of you because God created you and loves you.

V – Vicious. He will stop at nothing to damage you and your family.

I – Intelligent. Unfortunately, Satan is crafty and smarter than we are.

L – Liar. He is a convincing storyteller that fabricates the truth to get you to fall into his evil traps.

Know Your Enemy and Find Hope in Jesus

We don’t live in a Disney movie where all our stories have a happy ending.  Living as a Christian doesn’t mean that life will be easy.  In fact, we can make life harder because we focus on the bad circumstances and believing lies instead of seeing the bigger picture of what God wants to do for us when life is unraveling.  As Christians, we worship the King of Kings and He gives us the truth to replace those lies through His Word. Our hope is ONLY in Jesus.

Living a life in Christ gives us hope for a future and allows us to leave our past behind.  Lies told by Satan will only have power over us when we don’t know God’s truth.  God makes all things new as stated in Revelations 21:5. Our old sins are forgiven, our old selves are dead, and God is making us a new creation.  It is never too late for a positive change in your life.

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelations 21:5

The only way to battle Satan’s lies is to study God’s promises for your life and to really understand how much God loves you. If you are unclear about how much God loves you , then read this post Amazing Proof that God Loves You from A to Z.
